A FOW (friend of whisk) is tackling the insane feat of eating a slice of pizza at every slice joint in NYC. Insane. And awesome. We posted about it on our twitter recently, and Colin’s blog, Slice Harvester, was devoured by all the fancy-pants NYC foodies blogs. He’s famous, y’all!

Check it out here:  www.sliceharvester.blogspot.com

As sad as we are to see summer go, we’re looking forward to fall – and with fall, comes that brisk weather that’s perfect for braising and roasting! We’ve been busy bees over here at whisk – we’re keeping the store fully stocked and have a lot of exciting new things in stock!

We now carry Nordic Ware baking sheets and molds! The petit four mold is gorgeous – we can’t wait to start baking!

In addition, we have a TON of new tagines in stock, and we’ve also brought in the famous “i am not a paper cup” mug from DCI!

We’re very excited to now be stocking the famous (and hard to find) Regan’s Orange Bitter No. 6! These bitters are complex, and spiced nicely with cinnamon and cloves. They will add depth and spice to all of your cocktails!

In addition to stocking these Orange Bitters, we also carry Fee Brothers original old-fashioned bitters, Rhubarb Bitters, Grapefruit Bitters, Peach Bitters, Whiskey Barrel Bitters and Orange Bitters. Also, we carry the famous Peychaud’s bitters straight outta NoLa. Come on in, pick up some bitters and get your drink on!

The time has come to reveal what we’ve been working on here!

First, we have AWESOME oversized Julia Child tote bags – hurry in and get them, once we’re out, we’re out!

In addition, we are so pleased to have teamed up with Pretti Patti to sell her popular, and amazing, Julia Child aprons! We’re currently the only place to get ‘em!

Please join us on Saturday August 15th between 2:00 and 6:00 PM for Julia
Child’s Birthday Bash at Whisk!

To celebrate what would be “Saint Julia’s” 97th birthday, Whisk will have
food, drinks, live music, special sales on Julia’s kitchen essentials, and
we will be showing (and selling!) her classic TV series – The French Chef!

We will also be raffling off very special limited-edition Julia products,
including our already famous “Saint Julia” candles, Julia aprons, and
more. These will be available for purchase as well.

The party is free and the store will remain open to regular shopping. Come
on by anytime and celebrate with Whisk!

All dinnerware (that means: plates, bowls – that kinda stuff) from Apilco (really nice white French porcelian) and RSVP (Japanese blue purdy stuff) is 30% off! It’s the perfect time to throw out your chipped Corelle you’ve had since college and get some matching plates!

Having Carrie Anne (a musician in her own right!) and myself (Kari, a former music industry drone in  past life) working here, we tend to listen to some pretty fun music. Several times a day, people ask us what we’re playing. It’s pretty much what we listen to when we cook – you’ve got to have a great soundtrack! Just today, we were listening to Cock Sparrer, X-Ray Spex, and Frank Turner – a friend of Kari’s from the UK who is set for superstardom here in the states! What’s your favorite music to cook to?

And, finally, something that has had us LOL’ing for days now – Cooking With Coolio!

Cooking With Coolio

Alejandra and Carrie-Anne are both really into Michael Jackon, as well as window displays!

Here we show our love for MJ as well as our love for the traditional, hand-cranked way of making ice cream (though we also carry the non-Luddite version ;) )

And here, our new employee, “Jaybird,” displays our stainless steel storage containers:

In other news, we have some fabulous new items in the store for the summer, including Le Creuset sangria pitchers, the Cuisinart Classic 1.5-quart ice cream maker, denim Brooklyn Bridge aprons, and Weber grill accessories! Yay summer!!

…save the date!

Stay tuned for BIG ANNOUNCEMENTS (and get ready for BIG party!)

This coming Sunday, from 3Pm to 5Pm, we are happy to have Dalia Jurgensen here signing copies of her new book, Spiced. Spiced is “A Pastry Chef’s True Stories of Trials by Fire, After-Hours Exploits, and What Really Goes on in the Kitchen”. Dalia, known for her stints at Veritas, is currenty the pastry chef at Dressler, Williamsburg’s only Michelin starred restaurant.

The book is great – and having worked in a kitchen, I must admit, she hit the nail on the head with her female perspective on what REALLY happens in the kitchen. It also (sorry, Natasha)  made me miss my days as “one of the boys” in the kitchen. This is a perfect gift, or a perfect book for your favorite foodie. Come on in, pick it up, and meet Dalia. Who knows, she may even share some of her favorite baking tips with you…
