- Safe to use on automatic drip and single-serve coffee machines
- Cover natural stone countertops before descaling, to protect surfaces from spills and splashes
- Protective gloves are recommended. Always read your appliance manufacturer's recommendations before descaling or cleaning
Mineral scale reduces the temperature and the flow of the water as it goes through your coffee maker, which affects the flavor of coffee. Descale regularly with BKF Coffee Maker Descaler to help your machine produce fresh, hot coffee every time. (For use on single-cup and automatic drip coffee makers and espresso machines).
Directions:
Keep your coffee tasting great and your machine running like new by removing mineral buildup that can damage the heating element. Descale once a month or anytime you notice signs of hard water, like slower brewing or odd flavors.
Before you begin, protect your countertop from splashes and wipe up any spills right away.
Step 1: Mix the solution
Add 1 ounce of Bar Keepers Friend Coffee Maker Descaler for every 8 ounces of cold water needed to fill your machine’s reservoir. Do not exceed your machine’s max fill line.
Note: Not all coffee makers use a standard 8 oz cup – some use 5 oz “cups” instead. Use this quick guide to get your mix just right:
-
- For a 12-cup machine (5 oz cups): use 60 oz water + 7.5 tablespoons descaler
- For a 14-cup machine (5 oz cups): use 70 oz water + 8.75 tablespoons descaler
- For a 10-cup machine (8 oz cups): use 80 oz water + 10 tablespoons descaler
- For a 12-cup machine (8 oz cups): use 96 oz water + 12 tablespoons descaler
Step 2: Prep your machine
Take out any coffee pods or paper filters.
Place an empty carafe or mug under the brew spout.
Step 3: Run a cleaning cycle
Start a regular brew cycle (or “clean” cycle if your machine has one).
Repeat as needed until the reservoir is empty.
Step 4: Rinse it out
Discard the used Coffee Maker Descaler from the coffee carafe or mug and rinse thoroughly.
Then fill the reservoir with clean, cold water and run another brew cycle to rinse the coffee maker.
That’s it! Your machine is clean and ready to brew better coffee.
